SICK NOTE CHANGES
A new ‘Fit Note’ is going to be introduced in place of the doctors’ sick note on 6th April 2010. The new ‘Fit Note’ will be called the ‘Statement of Fitness for Work’ and will be used in England, Scotland and Wales. With your employer’s support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury. GPs do not issue fit notes for the first 7 days of absence caused by illness or an injury and they do not issue return to work notes, even if your employer asks you to get these. If you are having trouble with your employer over these matters you should consult your Union or the ACAS helpline ON 0845 46 47
